Family-run SME

North Wales

Net-zero & ESG retainer

A year-round net-zero and ESG programme for Lock Stock Self Storage.

Lock Stock Self Storage is a family-run, Denbigh-based business and the UK’s largest container-based storage company, with more than 4,000 units across sites in North and Mid Wales, the North West and the border counties. Having taken part in our Net-Zero Horizons programme, Lock Stock wanted to build on that momentum with year-round support: a partner to measure its footprint, keep sustainability on the board’s agenda through environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting, upskill its team, and turn genuine progress into credible communication with customers and stakeholders.

The brief

A fast-growing business that wanted sustainability built in, not bolted on.

Lock Stock is expanding quickly, and a large share of its units are rented by tradespeople and small businesses, the kind of customers increasingly asking suppliers what they are doing on sustainability. Having already worked with us through Net-Zero Horizons, Lock Stock wanted to keep the momentum going with a proper year-round partner rather than a one-off report, so that carbon, training and ESG stayed live between the big milestones.

The brief was a twelve-month net-zero and ESG programme: annual carbon footprint reporting across Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions; a dedicated ESG section in the monthly board pack; continued training for the team; hands-on funding and bid support; and help communicating genuine progress to customers and stakeholders in a credible, defensible way.

What the programme includes

A year-round retainer across reporting, training, funding and communication.

The programme runs as an ongoing partnership rather than a single project, with up to thirty hours of consultancy each quarter, so sustainability keeps moving across the whole year. Our courses are CPD-accredited and written in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University.

01

Hands-on ESG consultancy

Up to thirty hours of consultancy each quarter: strategic planning, emissions monitoring, and keeping sustainability moving between the bigger milestones.

02

ESG in the boardroom

A dedicated ESG section in the monthly board pack, covering carbon, training progress, community impact and progress against goals, so sustainability sits alongside the numbers the board already tracks.

03

Carbon footprint reporting

Annual carbon footprint reporting across Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions, with clear reporting to show reductions and progress over time.

04

Ongoing training

Continued access to bespoke sustainability training, with Carbon Awareness modules refreshed as standards and practice evolve, so the whole team stays engaged.

05

Funding and bid support

Help to identify grants and funding, and hands-on support with applications, so sustainability work also opens doors commercially.

06

Credible communication

Support to communicate genuine progress well, with regular updates and the assets to share achievements, kept in line with responsible green-claims guidance so the story stands up to scrutiny.

how it works

A year-round partnership, not a one-off report.

Structured so the early work sets the foundations and the rest of the year keeps sustainability visible, owned and moving, across reporting, training, funding and communication.

01

Baseline and plan

Establish the carbon baseline across Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3, and agree the year’s priorities together.

Quarter 1 Baseline

02

Board-level reporting

Build the ESG section into the monthly board pack, so progress is visible and owned at the top of the business.

Ongoing Reporting

03

Train and engage

Roll out and refresh training across the team, so sustainability is understood on the ground, not only in leadership.

Ongoing Training

04

Funding and communication

Pursue funding opportunities and share genuine progress with customers and stakeholders, credibly.

Ongoing Growth

Why it works

Sustainability that earns its place on the balance sheet.

01

Board-level, not side-of-desk

Putting ESG in the monthly board pack keeps sustainability owned by leadership and tracked like any other business metric.

02

Built for a growing business

Reporting, training and funding support scale with the business as it opens new sites, rather than being a fixed one-off.

03

Commercial as well as green

Bid and funding support means the work also helps win business and unlock grants, not just tick a box.

04

Credible by design

Progress is communicated in line with responsible green-claims guidance, so the story stands up to customer and regulator scrutiny.
