Our training and the Climate Kids Academy are only as credible as the science behind them, and much of that science comes from a partnership with the Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory (LCEI). The LCEI is a collaboration between Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and the University of Liverpool that pairs organisations in the Liverpool City Region with university researchers, academics and students. Two projects with the LCEI form the backbone of what we deliver: one shaped the evidence and policy inside our adult training, and the other built a tool that measures something schools find genuinely hard to track. It is why we can stand behind our content, rather than simply assert it.

The partner
The Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory has, since 2015, brought together Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool to help organisations across the Liverpool City Region develop low-carbon products, processes and services, working directly with university researchers, academics and students. It has supported hundreds of regional organisations over the past decade.
As a Liverpool City Region organisation ourselves, we have collaborated with the LCEI to put university-grade evidence behind what we build. That collaboration is the reason our programmes carry academic weight, and why we describe ourselves as an academic partner of the LCEI rather than simply a training provider.

The LCEI provided the science-based evidence and target-setting frameworks that underpin the content of our adult training programmes, so what we teach rests on recognised research.

They also helped shape the policy and standards we embed across our training, so our material reflects evidence-based practice rather than opinion or marketing.

For the Climate Kids Academy, our children’s climate-education programme delivered by sister organisation One Earth Academy International, the LCEI helped us build a tool to monitor and track school commuting, and school-bus use in particular.

School transport is notoriously difficult to measure: several buses can run at once, each carrying different numbers of pupils from day to day. The tool gives schools a workable way to estimate the carbon impact of those journeys.
why it matters
Our content is grounded in university research and recognised frameworks, so it holds up to scrutiny from clients, funders and regulators alike.
Working with two universities means the thinking behind our programmes is externally informed, rather than self-certified.
The school-transport tool tackles a genuine measurement gap, giving schools a way to quantify journeys that are otherwise almost impossible to track.
This is an ongoing partnership, not a one-off project, and it continues to shape how our programmes develop.
